Children can’t vote, but can read |

Children can’t vote in the presidential election, but they can read about the candidates thanks to three picture books coming out this fall.
Meghan McCain wrote about her father, presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.). My Dad, John McCain will hit stores Sept. 2, which is during the Republican National Convention.
Coming out the same day are children’s books about Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). However, neither one is written by a family member.
A spokesman for the publisher did not respond to inquiries as to whether Chelsea Clinton was approached to write the book about her mother.
Nikki Grimes, who won the 2006 NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children, wrote Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope.
And Kathleen Krull, who has written a number of books about women, wrote Hillary Rodham Clinton: Dreams Taking Flight.
Aladdin Books, an imprint with Simon & Schuster, is publishing the three tomes and will donate a portion of the proceeds from McCain’s book to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The fund aids military personnel who suffered traumatic brain injuries while in service. There’s no word on whether Meghan McCain will make a similar donation.
Simon & Schuster also published Hillary Clinton’s autobiography Living History.
