• DEFENSE. Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis is lobbying for Microfluidic Systems on appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security for fiscal 2009.

• EDUCATION. Miller/Wenhold Capitol Strategies is lobbying for the National Court Reporters Association on education issues relating to court reporting, according to records filed with the Senate. Dave Wenhold, previously on the staff of former Sen. Warren Rudman (R-N.H.), will represent the association.

• ENERGY. Alexander J. Beckles is lobbying for American Electric Power on issues relating to carbon capture and storage. Beckles is a former legislative director to Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.).

• ENVIRONMENT. C&M Capitolink is lobbying for General Moly on federal regulatory approvals of mining projects. Mike Gill, previously a legislative aide to former Sen. John Danforth (R-Mo.), and Paul Behrends, a former senior adviser to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), will be representing General Moly.

• FINANCE. CS Group is lobbying on behalf of AXA SA on legislation pertaining to Holocaust reparations.

• FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Tew Cardenas is lobbying for the Schering Corporation on issues relating to the sale of American pharmaceuticals in Latin America. In particular, the Schering Corporation is seeking the support of the U.S. Embassy. Roger Noriega, former assistant secretary of State, and Patrick Brennen, former staffer on the House International Relations Committee, will be lobbying for the corporation.

• GAMING. The Capitol Hill Consulting Group is lobbying for MGM Mirage on issues relating to off-reservation gaming and the Bay Mills Indian Community Land Settlement.

• IMMIGRATION. Ogilvy Government Relations is lobbying for the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition on issues relating to immigration and employer verification. Dean Aguillen, former adviser to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), will represent the coalition.

• TAX. Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is lobbying for Kostelanetz & Fink on behalf of Institutional Credit Partners on tax issues relating to “whistleblower” action. Robert Winters, former chief tax counsel on the House Ways and Means Committee, will lobby for Kostelanetz & Fink.

• TRUCKING. Government Relations Services is lobbying for the American Beverage Association on revising federal restrictions on truck size and weight.
