Bush to hit campaign trail ‘very soon’
Posted: 05/19/08 12:04 PM [ET]
The White House said Monday that President Bush will begin joining presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and down-ballot Republican candidates on the campaign trail “very soon.”

Scott Stanzel, a White House spokesman, declined to offer a specific time frame for when the president will start campaigning for McCain and GOP House and Senate candidates, but he did say it will likely be in the not too distant future.

“I expect the president will be on the campaign trail very soon,” Stanzel told reporters.

The president has jokingly acknowledged in the past that his low approval ratings make him toxic to McCain’s chances in some parts of the country. However, Bush continues to enjoy high regard in some of the more conservative parts of the country and has already proved this year that he can continue to be counted on as a prolific fundraiser.
