Boehner, Lungren to face off in forum
Posted: 11/18/08 01:45 PM [ET]
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) will hold a candidate forum on Wednesday morning to allow the House GOP conference to fully vet the two lawmakers vying for House GOP leader in the next Congress.

In a joint letter sent to House members, Boehner and Lungren wrote, “During this forum, we will give brief presentations on our respective candidacies for leader before casting your vote at Wednesday’s organizing conference. The candidates for leader will be the only candidates giving presentations.”

The closed-door forum will be held in the Ways and Means Committee room in the Longworth House Office Building from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Attendance will be limited to members and members-elect.

Lungren, who announced his decision to challenge Boehner last Friday, is considered a long shot to unseat the Ohio Republican.

In the letter announcing his candidacy, Lungren requested that the Republican Conference suspend its rules to allow for the candidates to debate and answer member questions for three hours.
