NRCC outraised DCCC by $3 million in July
Posted: 08/21/08 03:00 PM [ET]
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) made some fundraising headway in July, outraising its Democratic counterpart by more than $3 million and narrowing its cash-on-hand gap by about $4 million.

The NRCC used a surge in member giving to raise $9.2 million, according to its latest Federal Election Commission report. It spent $3.5 million and increased its available funds to $14.1 million.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which has consistently pulled in more than the NRCC, raised about $6 million and spent $4.2 million. The Democrats maintain a strong cash advantage, though, with $56.5 million left over.

The filing period, from July 1 to July 31, doesn’t incorporate the DCCC’s recent spending spree on individual races, which began about two weeks ago. During that time, the DCCC has spread about $1 million over a handful of races.

The NRCC has not begun spending money on individual races yet and figures to face some tough choices with such a small bankroll.

About $7 million of the $9.2 million the NRCC raised came from members through the committee’s Battleground program, which sends money from safer incumbents to marquee races.

On the Senate side, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) outraised the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) $5.3 million to $3.7 million.

But the DSCC spent heavily, investing in early ads in Oregon and Mississippi and spending more than $8.5 million. Its cash-on-hand advantage actually fell slightly, but remains large at $43 million-to-$25.4 million.
