White House staff evacuated after fire in Old Executive Office Building
Posted: 12/19/07 10:29 AM [ET]

A fire in the Old Executive Office Building, which houses the offices of many White House staffers and Vice President Dick Cheney, caused the evacuations of all employees.

The Secret Service, at 9:37 a.m., ordered all staff to leave grab personal belongings and leave the building immediately.

Heavy smoke could be seen outside the building and water cascaded from the steps of the building after District of Columbia firefighters responded to the blaze.

President Bush departed the White House on schedule for an appearance at the Department of Energy and there were no reports of any disruptions on Capitol Hill.
