Julie Eddy grew up at a dinner table full of adults. Her sisters are respectively nine and twelve years older than her. Her parents, lifelong Democrats, were schoolteachers who talked a lot of politics.

Adult conversation was normal for her from a young age. So was being a Democrat. When Bill Clinton first ran for the White House in 1992, Eddy was at the University of Arkansas. Eventually she became his scheduler — she worked in the Clinton White House from 1998 to 2000. “I scheduled a lot of foreign trips, trips all over the world,” she said. “It was an honor.”

Eddy said Clinton lives up to his charismatic reputation. “I always thought he was the smartest person in the room,” she said. “He was just incredibly kind and considerate of people generally. Certainly he expected a lot.”

Eddy never knew Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) before coming to work for her. The outgoing chief of staff recommended Eddy for the job. But soon she discovered their similarities, as Matsui also worked in Clinton’s White House in the Office of Public Liaison.

Eddy said the focus of Matsui’s office is on the congresswoman’s new appointment on the Energy and Commerce Committee. “Working in government and trying to promote and do what’s right for our country is an honor. She works really hard.”

This Saturday Eddy will get married in St. Michaels on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. But she said the honeymoon will wait until after the presidential election. In her spare time she and her fiance enjoy cooking; she loves Ina Garten, better known as “The Barefoot Contessa.” Garten, as it turns out, worked in the White House Office of Management and Budget in 1978.
