Results For Life
About Us
Results for Life is an educational campaign that emphasizes the value of clinical laboratory testing and the vital role it plays in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment in today’s healthcare system. Diagnostic tests comprise only 5 % of total hospital costs and only 1.6% of Medicare costs, but they influence as much as 60-70% of clinical decision-making that improves care and decreases cost. With rising healthcare costs, preventing illness and keeping patients healthy through laboratory medicine is more crucial than ever before.  Sponsorship includes a wide spectrum of laboratory industry professional organizations, manufacturers, and clinical laboratories, all collaborating to share the compelling life stories of how lives and health are positively affected by laboratory testing, and the cost- savings resulting from early detection and prevention.  Through effective print materials, a DVD, our continuing advocacy on Capital Hill, media outreach, website, Results for Life aims to inform congress and federal regulators of this timely and critical message.

Personalized Medicine Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: Patients with cancer, heart disease, HIV, and other conditions are living longer and enjoying better health because of a medical revolution called personalized medicine. At its center are genetic tests that identify the unique genetic profile of individual patients or their disease and allow physicians to tailor treatment to those unique characteristics.

GINA Op-Ed: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) provides Americans protection from health insurance and employment discrimination based on their personal genetic information.  This act removes barriers to identifying individuals at high risk for disease due to genetic mutations before the onset of the disease.

Chronic Kidney Disease Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    Chronic Kidney Disease is silent—until it’s too late.  When patients discover it, they often face kidney failure or even death.  Laboratory tests provide early-warning that allows for medical interventions that can prevent progression of  Chronic Kidney Disease and help control its damaging effects.

HIV Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    HIV has been transformed from a disease that meant rapid progression and death to a chronic disease that can be managed for decades. Lab tests have been central to that change.

Diabetes Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    Diabetes is a killer that can cause blindness, kidney failure, stroke, and premature death. But laboratory tests allow physicians and patients to control diabetes and its deadly effects.

Preventive Medicine Op-Ed: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    It costs less to keep people health than to treat them when they become seriously ill.  Despite that, the sad fact is that we spend only about 5% of our national health expenditures on preventing disease and promoting health.

Lead Poisoning Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    Lead poisoning destroys brains, especially those of children. It causes mental retardation, nerve damage, and reduced IQ.  Lab tests are the tools that allow physicians to identify lead poisoning and stop it.

Heart Disease Story Board: How Lab Tests Add Value
Summary: •    Lab tests tell whether chest pains signal a heart attack-or something totally unrelated.  This allows physicians to provide rapid treatment for heart attack victims and rapid reassurance for patients who had nothing to worry about.
